THE SAD GIRL'S GUIDE ON NOT BEING THE SAD GIRL

This text post from tumblr will literally change your life.

“Create a new life.

I remember a quote I read once, and I’ll look it up so I don’t screw up the wording:
‘If you want to kill yourself, kill what you don’t like. I had an old self I killed. You can kill yourself too, but that doesn’t mean you got to stop living.’

Now, I’m not suggesting you have suicidal intent, which is what this quote is directed towards. What I’m saying is, it’s never too late for a beginning. It’s never, ever too late to reinvent, to recreate, to start fresh. No, your life will never be a blank slate again, but you are so young, so full of potential. If you’re ever feeling stuck or unhappy, find strength and empowerment in the knowledge that you have the ability to create your future.
Do you feel like you don’t connect with friends around you; do you abhor certain qualities in yourself? Self-reflect. Resolve to be more patient, more compassionate, more confident, more open, more honest, more fearless, kind bold... whatever is holding you back, resolve to talk to someone new a day, try new things, meet new people... to little by little act in these ways, to little by little change your actions and perception.

If you feel generally unhappy in life (remember, I have no context) and it’s not just about friends, do what fear has been holding you back from doing. Learn something new, practice a talent, step outside of your comfort zone, do anything and everything. Free yourself from the doubt or fears or insecurities that restrain you.
Remember: you can always, always give yourself a fresh start. Decide to wake up one morning and feel clear-headed, motivated. Do something productive, be chipper, bubbly. Do something out of the ordinary, whether it’s a random act of kindness for a stranger or striking up a conversation with a family member you feel like you’ve been neglecting. Find appreciation for the blue of the sky, the warmth of a cup of coffee, the taste of a muffin, the feel of a worn page of a book, the feeling of familiarity in your house, the tickle of grass beneath your feet. Romanticize the things around you – remind yourself that there is so much in life that you have yet to experience... people, places, colors and colors of emotion. This makes me sound like some sort of hyper optimistic person but, in fact, I’m very realistic and often times quite cynical. But you need to realize that there is so much to the life you live... you don’t need to travel the world and escape to experience all that there is. For now, if you feel stuck, go to the beach at night, read alone in the park, buy tickets to a local concert, take a trip to a nearby city. Experience the small spontaneity around you. You don’t necessarily have to fall in love with life as much as find a familiarity, a fondness, and a desire for an adrenaline rush, a craving for experiences.
Detect the parts of your life that you want to change, and change them. It’s that easy. You hold that power.”

On a different note, go watch Inside Out. If you already have, see it again. If you haven't, aw man, YOU HAVE NOT LIVED. It also brought to life the greatest twitter account in existence, so whatchu still sitting here for?

  1. I discovered this whole quality-erradication concept recently, but I've also realised that you can't simply create the person you want to be because as you said, you'll never have a clean slate, and you'll always be you. I reckon what needs to be done is simply changing your state of mind. If you're unhappy, then yes, experience spontaneity and adrenaline and excitement and contentment. Remember that validation comes from yourself and you should do what you want to do. Don't be unhappy. Do try to abhor everything you dislike about yourself, because I know you can do better, but do you really need to?

    1. I also think the key step to 'create a new life' and be happier is to adapt a better perspective. This is such wonderful feedback, thank you so much :)
